South Korea's Financial Chief Reiterates Stance Against Excessive Real Estate Financing on July 29

According to Yonhap Infomax, on July 29, Lee Geon-won, chairman of South Korea's Financial Services Commission, reiterated his position on limiting excessive real estate financing during a parliamentary hearing. Lee stated that while the government supports actual homebuyers, financial resources should flow toward productive economic sectors rather than real estate. He emphasized that excessive real estate financing creates macro-level risks, citing the 2008 global financial crisis as an example rooted in overdeveloped real estate lending, and stressed the new lending restrictions align with international macroprudential standards.
