South Korea's KOSPI and KOSDAQ Trigger Circuit Breakers for 10 Consecutive Trading Days in July

According to Korea Exchange data released on July 27, KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets triggered circuit breakers—automatic 5-minute halts on program trading to curb excessive volatility—on 10 consecutive trading days from July 10 to 24.

In total, KOSPI experienced 41 circuit breaker activations and KOSDAQ 25 this year, with 23 of those concentrated in July. This surpasses the 2008 financial crisis frequency of 26 activations on KOSPI, representing a 58% increase in market volatility compared to that period.
