SpaceX AI and Cursor Plan to Release Joint AI Model Today; $60B Anysphere Acquisition Strengthens AI Coding Push

According to The Information, SpaceX AI and Cursor plan to release their jointly developed AI model today (July 8), as revealed by internal memos. The model, designed to compete with Anthropic's Claude and OpenAI's advanced offerings, was delayed earlier this week to improve efficiency. SpaceX acquired xAI (now SpaceX AI) in February, then completed a $60 billion all-stock acquisition of Anysphere, Cursor's parent company, in June to strengthen its foothold in high-margin enterprise AI code generation.
