SpaceX Applies to Deploy 100,000 Satellites in Third-Generation Constellation This Week

According to FCC filing documents, SpaceX applied this week to deploy 100,000 satellites in its third-generation constellation. The satellites will operate in two orbital shells at altitudes of 323–327.5 kilometers and 473–477.5 kilometers, with orbital inclinations ranging from 26 to 96.9 degrees. SpaceX described the system as a "robust, resilient, and ubiquitous communications infrastructure" capable of supporting global network traffic with extremely low latency for governments, enterprises, consumers, and billions of AI-powered devices. The company also requested approval to expand frequency usage beyond its existing Ku, Ka, V, and E bands into the W and D bands (92–275 GHz) to increase backhaul capacity.
