According to Spanish and UK health authorities, on May 8, suspected hantavirus cases linked to cruise ship Hondius were announced. Spain’s health ministry confirmed a female patient in Alicante province who had close contact with a deceased passenger from the ship and exhibited symptoms consistent with hantavirus infection. The UK health department reported a suspected case involving a male passenger from Tristan da Cunha who had traveled on the Hondius, which docked at the island between April 13-15.
