Tesla Starts Cybercab Robotaxi Production, Plans Expansion to Five Cities in 2026

Gate News message, April 25 — Tesla has begun manufacturing its Cybercab robotaxi, CEO Elon Musk announced on X on April 24. The two-door vehicle, unveiled in 2024 without a steering wheel or pedals, represents a significant step toward autonomous ride-hailing despite regulatory uncertainties and undisclosed pricing.

Tesla plans to expand its ride-hailing service to Phoenix, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, and Las Vegas during the first half of 2026. The service launched in Austin in 2025 and began operations in Dallas and Houston earlier this month. Early production volumes will be limited, with output expected to accelerate later this year at Gigafactory Texas near Austin.

The company has not disclosed fleet sizes or the number of vehicles operating without a safety monitor. Tesla expects the robotaxi business to remain unprofitable, generating no material revenue before 2027, according to Musk.
