Tokyo Electric Power Begins Spent Fuel Removal from Fukushima Unit 2 in Early June

According to Tokyo Electric Power Co., the company announced on May 28 it will begin removing spent nuclear fuel from the fuel pool of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Station Unit 2 in early June. The operation is expected to take over two years to complete. Tokyo Electric stated it will proceed with the work carefully. The fuel removal operation is part of ongoing decommissioning efforts at the site, which was severely damaged during the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.
