According to Yonhap Infomax, on July 24, President Trump announced plans to impose significant tariffs on the European Union in response to penalties imposed on major U.S. technology companies. Trump stated on Truth Social that the EU had imposed $15 billion in fines on Apple, $3 billion on Meta, $2.5 billion on Amazon, and an additional $1 billion on Google, bringing Google's total EU penalties to over $18 billion.

Trump warned that these practices would "no longer continue" under his administration and said the U.S. would not become "Europe's piggy bank." He announced the immediate launch of an investigation under Section 301 of U.S. trade law and stated that the EU would "pay a very high price," with substantial tariffs expected to be imposed on the bloc in the near term.
