Ukraine Dismantles International Cybercrime Ring, Seizes $3M in Cryptocurrency

Gate News message, April 16 — Ukrainian national police and internal security forces arrested a suspect linked to an international cybercriminal group in the Transcarpathian region, which was previously on the FBI's wanted list for over $100 million in fraud and money laundering targeting the United States and Europe.

The suspect was found with forged identity documents and had previously fabricated death certificates to evade detection. The criminal group deployed malware to steal personal and corporate data, then extorted victims for ransom. Money laundering methods included purchasing real estate and concealing fund flows through relatives' names. The suspect faces charges of document forgery and money laundering.

Authorities seized approximately $11 million in total assets, including cash, real estate, and vehicles, along with roughly $3 million in cryptocurrency. Two additional suspects were also apprehended in the operation.
