Ukrainian Former Police Officers Accused of Extorting $2.2M from Crypto Entrepreneurs

According to ChainCatcher, the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office in Ukraine has completed a pretrial investigation into a criminal gang comprising four former police officers and one civilian with prior convictions. The group stands accused of kidnapping crypto entrepreneurs and extorting over $2.2 million through violence, threats, and false debt claims. Investigators found the suspects targeted at least four victims, exploiting their law enforcement skills, official vehicles, and police credentials. In one case, a Kyiv victim was abducted at gunpoint and coerced into signing fraudulent debt documents totaling $5 million. The gang's activities were halted in November 2025, all defendants have been dismissed from police service, and case materials have been transferred to court.
