U.S. and Iranian Forces Exchange Fire in Strait of Hormuz; Trump Says Ceasefire Remains Valid

According to U.S. officials, American and Iranian forces exchanged fire in the Strait of Hormuz on May 8, with the U.S. military responding to attacks by Iranian missiles and drones. Three U.S. destroyers successfully passed through the strait without sustaining any damage. Trump stated that the strikes left Iran "decimated" but emphasized that the ceasefire agreement remains in effect. He warned that if Iran does not quickly reach a deal, the U.S. will respond with "far more force and far more violence." Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have lifted restrictions on U.S. military use of their bases and airspace.
