U.S. Bipartisan Lawmakers Propose Facial Age Verification for Prediction Markets on July 17

According to Bitcoin.com, U.S. bipartisan lawmakers introduced a bill on July 17 requiring online sports betting and prediction market platforms to use facial scanning for age verification before user login or betting. The proposal, led by Representative Josh Gottheimer and co-sponsored by eight bipartisan lawmakers, aims to prevent minors from accessing betting platforms using parental or third-party accounts. The facial age verification technology analyzes facial structure and patterns to estimate age without storing identity or biometric information. According to NIST assessments, six age estimation algorithms showed an average error margin of 3.1 years, with typically higher error rates for female faces compared to male faces.
