U.S. Central Command Chief Recommends Halting Iran Bombing Campaign After Two Weeks of Airstrikes

According to Axios, U.S. Central Command chief Brad Cooper recommended on July 24 that the Trump administration halt bombing operations around the Strait of Hormuz targeting Iran, citing diminishing returns after two weeks of airstrikes. Cooper assessed that Iran's ship-attack capabilities had been significantly degraded and that most bombing targets had been eliminated. The recommendation was passed to the White House, Department of Defense, and Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Trump subsequently paused air operations against Iran. Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Kane also warned that a shortage of air defense interceptor missiles could hinder the ability to defend U.S. forces and allies in the Middle East.
