U.S. Central Command Strikes Iranian Military Targets After Drone Attack on Tanker Near Strait of Hormuz

According to a U.S. Central Command statement on June 27, an Iranian-backed attack drone struck a Panama-flagged tanker near the Strait of Hormuz earlier that day, prompting the U.S. military to conduct a retaliatory strike against Iranian targets. The drone attack damaged the commercial vessel, which was navigating one of the world's most critical shipping lanes. In response, U.S. warplanes targeted Iranian military surveillance facilities, communications systems, air defense positions, unmanned aerial vehicle storage sites, and mine-laying equipment. The U.S. Central Command said commercial traffic in the Strait of Hormuz remains passable and will maintain heightened readiness to respond to any further developments.
