U.S. Defense Official Refuses to Disclose Whether Trump Administration Seeks Congressional Authorization for Fresh Iran Military Operations

GateNews
According to CNN, on May 20 during a Congressional hearing, Daniel Zimmerman, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, declined to confirm whether the Trump administration would authorize renewed military strikes against Iran or exclude the possibility of deploying ground forces. When pressed by Representative Patrick Ryan on whether the president would seek explicit Congressional authorization or a declaration of war, Zimmerman stated that "top-level negotiations are ongoing to seek a long-term solution." He emphasized that all options remain available to the president but refused to provide specifics on military planning. The situation between the U.S. and Iran has persisted for nearly three months.
