According to U.S. Southern Command, on May 26, the U.S. military's Operation Southern Sword task force conducted a lethal strike against a vessel operated by a designated terrorist organization in the eastern Pacific. Intelligence confirmed the ship was traveling known drug-smuggling routes and participating in narcotics trafficking. One drug trafficker militant was killed; two survivors were recovered. The Southern Command immediately coordinated with the U.S. Coast Guard to initiate search and rescue operations for survivors. No U.S. military personnel were injured.
