US National Debt Hits Record $39.68 Trillion on July 23, Sparking Bitcoin and Gold Hedge Debate

According to Treasury data as of July 23, US national debt reached a fresh record of $39.68 trillion, reigniting investor focus on bitcoin and gold as hedges against currency debasement. Annual federal interest expenses are now running near $1 trillion, or roughly $3 billion daily, exceeding annual defense spending of $947 billion. Roughly a third of Treasury debt matures within twelve months and must be refinanced at current higher rates. JPMorgan analysts have grouped bitcoin and gold together as the "debasement trade," while Ray Dalio and Citadel's Ken Griffin have similarly urged investors toward hard assets against US sovereign risk.
