US Prosecutors Charge Three Over $2.5B Nvidia AI Server Scheme to China via Thailand

According to Bloomberg, in a March indictment, U.S. prosecutors charged three people, including a Supermicro co-founder, with routing at least $2.5 billion of U.S.-made AI servers containing Nvidia chips through Thailand and Taiwan to China in alleged violation of export controls. The indictment identified a Bangkok-based firm, OBON Corp, as facilitating the transfers. Some servers were reported to have been sold to Alibaba, though the company denied any business relationship with Supermicro or the parties involved.
