U.S. Services Sector Layoffs Fall 61% YTD to 17,065 in May; Healthcare Cuts Rise 17% to 30,414

According to Challenger, a U.S. employment data firm, the services sector announced 6,268 layoffs in May, with year-to-date cuts reaching 17,065—down 61% from 44,273 in the same period of 2025. The healthcare and medical products manufacturing sector announced 30,414 layoffs so far this year, up 17% from 26,008 in the same 2025 period.
