Vitalik Buterin Rejects Calls for Ethereum Foundation to Support ETH Price

ETH-2.1%
Vitalik Buterin pushed back against calls for the Ethereum Foundation to take a more active role in defending ETH's price and marketing the network, as the token trades near $2,094, more than 50% below its all-time high of nearly $5,000 reached in August 2025. Buterin rejected the idea that the Foundation should act as the central manager of Ethereum's direction or market performance, describing it instead as "one node, with a defined purpose, alongside other nodes." The Foundation will continue to focus on censorship resistance, open source software, research, cybersecurity, and decentralization rather than competing with faster blockchains or price support. Buterin added that the Foundation plans to stretch its funds for research longevity and sell less ETH in the future, noting that the organization holds only about 0.16% of total ETH compared with other foundations holding 10% to 50% of their native tokens.
