OpenAI mobile supply-chain update: MediaTek exclusive processor? Mass production schedule advanced to the first half of 2027

Guo Ming-chi said OpenAI is accelerating the development of its first AI Agent phone, targeting mass production in the first half of 2027. This may also enable MediaTek to secure exclusive orders for processors, with a custom chip built on the Dimensity 9600. It would be produced by TSMC’s N2P process in the second half of 2026. Key specifications include an ISP with high dynamic range, dual NPU, LPDDR6, UFS 5.0, and pKVM security. If everything goes smoothly, shipments in 2027–2028 could reach about 30 million units, which would be of significant importance to OpenAI’s IPO narrative and its entry into the broader consumer market.
