Western Europe Records Hottest June on Record in 2026, Says EU Climate Monitor

According to the EU's Copernicus Climate Change Service, June 2026 became Western Europe's warmest June on record and the second-hottest June globally, based on a report released on July 9. Record-breaking sea surface temperatures drove extreme heatwaves across Western Europe, with the western Mediterranean and Atlantic coastlines experiencing marine heatwaves.

Multiple countries set new June and all-time temperature records during the period, with heat-related deaths reported across the affected regions.
