Westpac Chief Economist: RBNZ May Hike OCR Again in September, Target 2.75%-3% by Year-End

According to Kelly Eckhold, chief economist at Westpac, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand may raise its official cash rate (OCR) again in September, with the central bank's policy committee appearing to signal further tightening ahead. On July 8, Eckhold noted that the committee "seems concerned that not hiking on Wednesday would allow financial conditions to ease further."

Eckhold added that the RBNZ "appears to continue viewing an OCR of 2.75%-3% by year-end as appropriate," suggesting sustained rate increases are anticipated in the coming months.
