Gate News message, April 16 — Worldcoin, Sam Altman's identity verification project, achieved a major milestone in Argentina this week, with facilitators onboarding new users at an average rate of one person every nine seconds.
According to Worldcoin's announcement on Thursday, the project signed up over 9,500 users in Argentina in a single day in August, setting a record for single-day registrations. The surge in demand temporarily made the Worldcoin app the number one application on Argentina's App Store. Facilitators operate across 38 different locations, with the majority concentrated in Buenos Aires.
Despite ongoing privacy concerns and investigations by the Argentine government, demand for World ID verifications has remained strong in the country. Worldcoin launched globally in July and has since expanded to multiple markets, though it faced regulatory scrutiny in Kenya, leading to a crackdown by local authorities.
