Yield Guild Games Shuts Down YGG Play, Lays Off 35 as Shift to AI Gaming Datasets Extends 4-Year Runway

According to YGG's official announcement on Monday (July 7), Yield Guild Games shut down its Web3 publishing arm YGG Play and laid off 35 employees. Despite lifetime revenue exceeding $9 million, YGG Play was unable to sustain commercially in the current gaming market amid the October 2025 crypto downturn.

YGG is pivoting to become a gaming dataset provider for AI training. The company stated it does not expect the Web3 games publishing market to recover in the near term. With $20.6 million in treasury, the transition extends YGG's operating runway to four years.
