Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Station Temporarily Loses All External Power

GateNews

Gate News message, April 17 — The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported on April 16 that the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Station, Europe’s largest nuclear facility, temporarily lost all external power supply. The outage lasted approximately 40 minutes before power was restored.

The cause of the power loss remains unclear. The IAEA team on-site is conducting an investigation and monitoring the situation to determine what triggered the incident.

The Zaporizhzhia station has been under Russian control since February 2022, when Ukraine’s conflict escalated into a full-scale military operation. Since then, the facility has faced multiple attacks involving artillery strikes and drone assaults, raising international concerns about its safety and operational security.
