Apple is reportedly planning to overhaul Siri in iOS 27 with the code-named “Campos” project, integrating Google Gemini technology. At the same time, there are rumors that Apple’s own AI wearable device could be launched as early as the second half of the year.

Apple announced earlier this month that it has selected Google’s Gemini as the core AI engine to inject more advanced generative AI capabilities into products like Siri.

According to the latest report from 9to5Mac, the internal project codenamed “Campos” will release a new version of the voice assistant in iOS 27, completely updating the previous circular icon and single-command interface, and enabling Siri to write code, generate images, and handle complex sentences, competing with GPT and Gemini.

Approximate annual partnership cost with Google Gemini: $1 billion

To equip the new Siri with large model capabilities, Apple has chosen to adopt Google’s Gemini 3 technology. TechRadar notes that the licensing agreement between the two companies is approximately $1 billion per year. Analysts believe this cost is much lower than the long-term expenses of building an in-house model, allowing Apple to focus R&D resources on product integration and privacy mechanisms.

Analysts predict that the new Siri will have “agent” permissions to read screen content and coordinate across apps. When users browse emails, Siri can directly extract schedule information, cross-reference with the calendar, and offer suggestions, even adjusting device settings. Due to sandbox restrictions, third-party apps are limited in system access, which could create a competitive moat for Apple’s AI ecosystem.

Might be offered for free?

iDropNews suggests that the new AI features are likely to be available as a “built-in service” with the iPhone 18, rather than as a separate paid feature. Currently, many market offerings charge around $20 per month for generative AI subscriptions. If Apple adopts a free strategy, it could become an attractive feature for average users.

In terms of timeline, the focus is on WWDC 2026. If Apple launches the new Siri as scheduled, it will not only mark a new chapter for the voice assistant but also leverage hardware entry points and deep integration as key advantages in the upcoming AI competition.

Apple reportedly developing its own AI wearable device

Additionally, according to foreign media reports, Apple may be working on its own AI wearable device. It is said to be a device that can be worn on clothing, equipped with two cameras and three microphones.

Before this news, OpenAI’s Chief of Global Affairs Chris Lehane stated at the Davos forum on Monday that the company is very likely to release its highly anticipated first AI hardware device in the second half of this year; some reports suggest that the device could be a pair of headphones.

However, whether consumers want such an AI device remains to be seen. Two former Apple employees previously founded Humane AI, a startup that also sold an AI pin, but it performed poorly after launch. The company eventually ceased operations within two years of product release and sold its assets to HP.
