The New York Times: NBA has no management guidelines for on-chain prediction platforms; "Giannis Antetokounmpo" becoming a Kalshi shareholder may fall into a gray area
Odaily Planet Daily reports that since on-chain prediction platforms are an emerging field, the NBA has no clear management guidelines, placing it in a gray area. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver faces a significant challenge: whether it is illegal for star players to turn their transfers into financial products. It is reported that “Greek Freak” Giannis Antetokounmpo specifically announced his stake in the sports prediction platform Kalshi Sports after the player trade deadline closed, at which point all betting markets were settled, avoiding direct compliance scrutiny during the trading period. It is also reported that the betting volume on Kalshi regarding whether “Greek Freak” would leave before the deadline reached $23.31 million. The Milwaukee Bucks then announced just hours before the deadline that they would not trade “Greek Freak” this season. (The New York Times)
