PANews, March 2 — The App Store page shows that Anthropic’s AI chatbot application Claude recently soared to the top of the free app download chart in the U.S. (American region) App Store, jumping from 42nd place two months ago. The report indicates that this ranking increase is not due to new features but is related to escalating disputes between Anthropic and the U.S. government over technological use. President Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth criticized Anthropic and demanded that the federal government stop using its technology, prohibit contractors doing business with the U.S. military from collaborating with Anthropic, and only allow the company to continue providing services to the Department of Defense for the next six months to facilitate a transition. Anthropic responded by stating that it refuses to use its cutting-edge AI models for fully automated weapons or large-scale domestic surveillance, believing such uses would threaten the safety of soldiers and civilians and violate fundamental rights.
