As demand expands and protocols are upgraded, the POKT Network is on track to reach its goal of 1 trillion relays

The POKT Network (a.k.a. Pocket Network) already serves nearly 700 billion relays with thousands of nodes spread across 22 countries, with the goal of reaching 1 trillion RPC relays in the next innovation cycle.

POKT Network (POKT) began building its Decentralization Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN) protocol in 2017 and deployed to Mainnet in 2020, two years before the term DePIN appeared. POKT Network (POKT) provides an incentive and collaboration layer that enables the decentralization of Blockchain data between any application.

All of this is included in a major protocol upgrade, named “Shannon Upgrade” after Claude Shannon, the father of information theory, with the goal of taking advantage of the latest developments in Celestia’s modular Blockchain technology to enter the Mainnet by the end of Q2 2024.

This builds on the milestones achieved in 2023 as the POKT Network (POKT) enters a new phase of maturity, introducing protocol revenues, keeping inflation below 5%, shutting down unsustainable demand, and launching a strategy to provide new access points (“gateways”) to the network.

This “gateway” strategy will be expanded in 2024 to enable more RPC services to build on top of the RPC base layer of the POKT Network (POKT), with up to 10 services expected to be onboarded by the end of Q2 2024. Each of these businesses will drive demand for the underlying network, increase protocol revenue, and shorten the distance to the 1 trillion relay target.

The “gateway” also supports innovation across the network. One gateway is working to introduce “webhooks,” which could increase the current $1 billion RPC opportunity by about 10%, and upgrades are already underway to enable the POKT Network to provide data for applications that interact with any open source AI LLM (large language model), a $10 billion market.
