Russian Drone Enters Romanian Airspace During Border Strikes, Giurgiu Region Under Investigation

Gate News message, April 17 — Russia launched a new round of drone strikes along the Ukraine-Romania border overnight on April 16-17, with one unmanned aircraft breaching Romanian airspace, according to Romania’s Defense Ministry statement released on April 17.

Russian forces targeted civilian and infrastructure facilities on the Ukrainian side of the border. Romanian air defense systems detected one drone entering Romanian territory near Giurgiu in a sparsely populated area, where radar contact was subsequently lost. Romanian military personnel were deployed to the region on the morning of April 17 to investigate.
