Gate News message, April 17 — Russian television personality and influencer Viktoria Bonya posted a viral video criticizing Putin’s government as “out-of-touch,” warning that the Russian public is being pushed to a breaking point by corruption and lies and is ready to snap. The video, titled “An appeal to Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. From all concerned Russians,” has accumulated over 20 million views and 1 million likes.
Bonya, who currently lives outside Russia, directly addressed Putin, claiming he is being kept in the dark by his own “yes-men” and lacks accurate information about conditions in the country. She used the metaphor of a “coiled spring” to describe public sentiment, saying: “People will stop being afraid and they’re being squeezed into a coiled spring and that one day that coiled spring shoot out.” The video specifically targeted the Kremlin’s crackdowns on social media and messaging apps, as well as government failures in handling floods in Dagestan and a cattle disease outbreak in Siberia.
In a rare move, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov acknowledged the video rather than suppressing it, stating that work is being done on the issues raised. Political observers view this admission as a sign of weakness for Putin’s government. With parliamentary elections scheduled later this year, some analysts have speculated whether Bonya’s appeal could serve as a “safety valve” for public frustration, though she has denied any coordination with the Kremlin.
