Sei v6.4 is now live on mainnet. The update brings IBC disable capability as the chain moves toward an EVM-only future under SIP-3.

Sei Labs has rolled out v6.4 on mainnet. The update marks a significant step in the network’s ongoing SIP-3 migration.

At its core, v6.4 introduces the protocol-level ability to disable inbound IBC transfers. IBC is Cosmos’ native interoperability protocol. Sei Labs notes that the change will not take effect until a separate governance proposal passes.

Sei v6.4 and the IBC Disable Capability

The new release does not immediately cut off IBC transfers. Instead, it gives the network the technical groundwork to do so when governance approves the follow-on proposal.

Sei Labs has confirmed it will publish that proposal separately, giving the community advance notice.

Once activated, users will no longer bridge Cosmos-native assets into Sei. This affects assets like Nobel USDC, Kava USDT, and Wormhole-wrapped tokens.

The scope of impact is broad, touching multiple DeFi positions and token holdings across the network.

Sei Labs has been transparent about the phased rollout. The team says additional releases will follow, targeting outbound IBC transfers and Sei’s native oracle solution. Those upgrades are expected in the coming months.

SIP-3 Migration: What Sei Users Need to Do Now

Sei Labs is urging users holding non-SEI IBC assets to act early.

Waiting until governance activates the change could leave users with limited options. The team has outlined three clear steps for affected holders.

First, users should swap IBC assets for EVM-native equivalents.

Sei Labs points to platforms like Saphyre and Symphony for smaller volume conversions, though it does not endorse either. Slippage may vary based on liquidity and market conditions.

Second, users can bridge IBC assets back to their origin chains. Sei Labs mentions Skip:Go as a frontend option, again without endorsing it.

Third, users should unwind any DeFi positions that rely on IBC tokens before the governance deadline hits.

The Broader Push Toward an EVM-Only Sei Network

The SIP-3 proposal passed last May.

Sei’s community voted to deprecate CosmWasm and native Cosmos transactions entirely. The goal is a streamlined, EVM-only chain. v6.4 is the latest piece of that broader plan.

Earlier, v6.3 brought staking via EVM to Sei. Now, v6.4 adds the IBC disable capability. Each release chips away at the Cosmos-native layer. Sei Labs says more are coming.

The transition reflects a clear strategic direction. Sei is moving away from its Cosmos roots and committing fully to EVM infrastructure.

For users still holding legacy assets, the window to act is open but narrowing.
