On April 6, according to reports, U.S. President Trump posted on social media threatening Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran’s embassies and consulates in multiple countries all posted responses. Iran’s embassy in India said: “Cursing and insulting are the actions of children who can’t take losing. Get yourself under control, old man!” Iran’s embassy in Zimbabwe published a “presidential etiquette,” including “using respectful and restrained language in public remarks” and “behaving with dignity, reflecting the seriousness of the office.” Iran’s embassy in the UK cited a quote by American writer Mark Twain, saying: “Better to keep silent and let people suspect you are a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.” Iran’s embassy in South Africa also called on the American public: “To be honest, smart Americans should at least do something to uphold their own dignity.”
