An Ethereum developer known as “Fede’s Intern” has been detained in Izmir, Turkey, on allegations of helping individuals “misuse” the Ethereum network.
The Argentine crypto researcher, who denies any wrongdoing, claims the charge is “obviously wrong” and insists his work is limited to building blockchain infrastructure.
This detention comes amidst a sweeping regulatory crackdown in Turkey, where officials have recently imposed strict licensing rules on exchanges, tightened controls on fund movements, and even blocked access to DeFi platforms like PancakeSwap.
The case has sparked a debate within the crypto community, with many advocates calling the situation “very troubling” and arguing that the charge has “zero legal basis,” possibly stemming from a misunderstanding of blockchain technology.
The developer is attempting to leave Turkey to fight the charges from abroad and plans to release more details once safely in Europe.
