A man impersonated an account and faked a disconnection to obtain a verification code, stealing over 1.6 million in virtual coins and was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
According to Gate.io news bot, according to the Xiamen procuratorate, Chen obtained Hong’s account and login password when he was entrusted to help Hong operate virtual currency investment. Chen then falsely claimed that his account was disconnected, tricked Hong into providing various verification codes, and used real-time verification codes to transfer the virtual currency in Hong’s account to his account. Chen made a profit of more than 160 yuan after selling the stolen virtual currency, and used all the proceeds to repay personal debts. The court finally sentenced Chen to 11 years in prison and a fine for theft.
