On January 15th, Oklahoma lawmakers introduced Senate Bill 2064, allowing state employees, private businesses, and individuals to accept and pay with Bitcoin under certain conditions. The bill is currently under review by the committee.
The bill permits people to negotiate and receive payments in Bitcoin, and requires the State Treasurer to seek service providers capable of handling payroll and contract payments based on Bitcoin. If passed, this will establish a legal framework for Bitcoin transactions in state government activities.
The bill will allow public employees and later private businesses to receive income or invoices in Bitcoin, with the State Treasurer establishing a secure payment process. Unlike previous proposals focused on reserves or investments, SB 2064 emphasizes practicality in transactions.
This reflects a trend of expanding digital asset acceptance in Oklahoma, supplementing laws on mining, custodial rights, and taxation.
