According to a CITIC Securities research report citing Taiwan media, consumer-level CPUs from AMD and Intel saw price increases of 5–10% in March 2024, while server CPUs experienced larger increases of 10–20%, driven by surging demand for AI computing power.
The price increases are not temporary market fluctuations. Supply chain sources indicate that CPU shortages will persist through 2027, with the third quarter of 2026 expected to bring a new round of price adjustments, according to the report.
AMD is planning consecutive server CPU price increases in the second and third quarters of 2026 to offset cost pressures from its transition to 2nm manufacturing process. The cumulative price increase for these two adjustments is estimated at 16–17%, the report states.
Intel has already implemented price adjustments, raising PC CPU prices in March 2024 and adjusting server CPU pricing on April 1, 2024. These adjustments contributed to an improvement in gross margin in the second quarter, according to the report.
Market participants expect additional price increases of approximately 8–10% in the second half of 2024, the report indicates.
