Apple Names Vision Pro Chief Mike Rockwell as Siri Lead, Ditches In-House AI Model for Google's Gemini

According to reporting, Apple has appointed Mike Rockwell, the executive who led the Vision Pro project, as the new head of Siri following internal concerns about Apple Intelligence's poor market reception in 2025. Rockwell has overhauled the Siri leadership team and abandoned Apple's in-house AI model in favor of Google's Gemini model and Google Cloud infrastructure. The company will debut a standalone Siri app competing with ChatGPT and generative photo editing features at WWDC 2026. Meanwhile, Apple has pushed back hardware projects including its tabletop robot to 2028, smart display to late 2026, and AI glasses to late 2027, all delayed due to underlying AI technology constraints.
