Australia Establishes AI Office, Mandates Data Centers as Net Energy Producers

According to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Wednesday (July 15), Australia announced the establishment of an AI office under the Prime Minister's office to manage artificial intelligence standards and oversee coordinated government response across cabinet departments.

The government will mandate data centers to become net energy producers and limit water consumption. Related legislation is expected to be submitted to parliament in early 2027.
