Bahamas Maritime Authority Launches Blockchain-Based Digital Seafarer Records on June 1

The Bahamas Maritime Authority launched a blockchain-secured Digital Seafarer Record Book on June 1, 2026, replacing paper-based maritime records with a fully digital system for recording and verifying seafarer credentials. The platform incorporates advanced identity verification, QR code authentication, and secure discharge certificates to ensure record integrity and prevent tampering.

The system underwent a successful pilot program with Carnival Cruise Line and IDSure, demonstrating scalability and reliability for full deployment. Developed in compliance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards and cybersecurity requirements, the Digital Seafarer Record Book enables real-time verification across jurisdictions and supports efficient maritime operations and regulatory oversight.
