According to BlockBeats, on May 31, a man named Zhang Moumou in Qingdao, China was sentenced to 10 years and 9 months for stealing 107 Bitcoin while assisting an acquaintance to register a virtual currency wallet. Zhang obtained the wallet's seed phrase and transferred the BTC through multiple exchanges, cashing out approximately 660,000 yuan. At current market prices, the 107 BTC exceed 50 million yuan. The court found that despite China's regulatory policies denying cryptocurrency's status as legal tender, they do not negate its property nature, and Bitcoin qualifies as "property" under criminal law and can be the object of theft. For valuation, the prosecution used the actual proceeds from selling the stolen funds (660,000 yuan) rather than market price estimates.
