Bithumb CEO Booked as Bribery Suspect Over Lawmaker's Son Hiring

According to local reports, South Korean police booked Bithumb CEO Lee Jae-won as a bribery suspect over allegations that he hired the son of National Assembly member Kim Byung-ki. Police allege Kim requested the hiring during a November 2024 meeting and that the CEO's son worked at Bithumb from January to approximately July 2025. Investigators claim Kim then exploited his position on the Political Affairs Committee overseeing financial regulation to repeatedly target Bithumb competitor Dunamu. Seoul police executed search warrants at Bithumb headquarters on February 24 and June 8 as part of the ongoing investigation.
