China and U.S. Militaries Hold 2026 Maritime Security Consultation Meeting in Hawaii, May 28-29

According to Jin10, Chinese and U.S. military representatives held their 2026 maritime security consultation mechanism working group meeting in Hawaii on May 28-29. Both sides conducted frank discussions on current maritime and air security situations based on equal and respectful principles, and assessed the implementation of the Code of Conduct for China-U.S. Maritime and Air Encounters since the 2025 consultation. The delegations agreed that effective military communication helps front-line troops execute tasks professionally and reduces misunderstandings. China reiterated its opposition to any actions that infringe its sovereignty or territorial integrity under the guise of freedom of navigation, and pledged to firmly defend its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights in accordance with international law.
