China Releases AI-Energy Action Plan with 2027 and 2030 Targets on May 8

According to PANews, on May 8, China’s National Development and Reform Commission, National Energy Administration, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and National Data Administration jointly released an action plan to promote artificial intelligence and energy sector synergy. The plan targets establishing an AI-supporting energy system by 2027 and achieving world-leading AI applications in the energy sector by 2030. Key initiatives include coordinating new energy bases with computing hub layouts, exploring direct connections between nuclear power and hydrogen energy to computing facilities, improving renewable energy utilization in data centers, enabling power-AI coordination through electricity market mechanisms, and accelerating development of energy-focused AI models and domestic computing chips.
