Core topics under discussion include preventing unpredictable AI model behavior, managing autonomous military systems, and addressing threats from non-state actors exploiting open-source tools. Both sides are reportedly exploring the possibility of establishing a high-level “AI hotline.” However, Bessent has taken a hardline stance on AI competition with China, recently asserting that U.S. AI models will ensure American dominance in the field, according to Bloomberg. This contradicts the dialogue’s stated goal of establishing safeguards against uncontrolled AI development.
