China Urges Nuclear Powers to Withdraw Overseas Warheads at UN Treaty Review on May 15

According to statements made at the UN headquarters on May 15, China called on nuclear-armed nations to withdraw nuclear weapons deployed overseas and avoid new deployments on foreign soil. The remarks came during the 11th Review Conference of the Non-Proliferation Treaty. China also expressed serious concern regarding nuclear-sharing and extended deterrence arrangements, and urged the International Atomic Energy Agency to strengthen oversight of sensitive fissile material supply-demand imbalances to prevent violations of the treaty.
