China's Agriculture Ministry Lowers Breeding Sow Target to 3.75M Heads on May 14

China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs revised and issued a pig capacity regulation plan on May 14, lowering the national target for breeding sow reserves to approximately 3.75 million heads. This marks the first downward adjustment since February 2024. The plan tightens the upper limits of green and yellow alert zones and the lower limit of the yellow zone for breeding sow inventory, establishing a tiered linkage control mechanism to better align pork supply with market demand and maintain stable pig prices.
