Crypto Lawyer Deaton: 75,000 XRP Holders' Support Kept Ripple Alive During SEC Lawsuit

XRP-1.75%
According to crypto lawyer John E. Deaton, the participation of more than 75,000 XRP holders as amici curiae was instrumental in keeping Ripple alive during its years-long legal battle with the SEC, which concluded in August 2025. Deaton credited the unprecedented community support for strengthening Ripple's resolve to fight rather than settle, protecting hundreds of jobs and shaping U.S. crypto regulation. He also argued the SEC deliberately named Ripple executives in the lawsuit to increase settlement pressure, citing former SEC Chairman Jay Clayton's acknowledgment that naming executives—even without fraud allegations—amplifies leverage to force settlements.
