According to CertiK, crypto wrench attacks resulted in approximately $101 million in losses during the first four months of 2026, with 34 verified incidents globally reported—a 41% increase compared to the same period in 2025. If the trend continues, the firm estimates several hundred million dollars in losses for the full year.
Eighty-two percent of incidents occurred in Europe, with France accounting for 24 assaults. Notably, attackers are increasingly targeting family members of primary victims, with more than half of 2026 incidents involving a spouse, child, or elderly parent either as a direct victim or as leverage.
